The Sharps are back!

Claire and David are frequent visitors to my blog...and my biggest fans! Many of my photos adorn their walls and I jumped at the chance of shooting their first family shoot since the arrival of their first child Roisin. Roisin was not really in a smiley mood (teething problems!) which is unusual for her as she is normally a ray of sunshine.

I have a feeling that The Sharps will be back soon....maybe for Roisins first birthday!

Tracey's Cherish the Dress Shoot

I know you LOVE your wedding dress....and why should you only wear it once? It's way too beautiful to be left at the back of your wardrobe. Before you send it to the cleaners, why not wear it one more time and make it the centre of attention once again. Without the hustle and bustle of the wedding day we can take out time and create amazing portraits in a unusual location...and have loads of fun in the process!

Tracey adores and her dress and her lovely new hubby bought her this experience as a wedding present...fab idea! So we hit lucky on a beautiful sunny breezy day on the coast and Tracey totally rocked it! And you'll be pleased to know her dress was no dirty after this shoot than it was after her wedding day.
This is not Trash the Dress...this is Cherish the Dress!
Would you like to have a similar experience? Maybe on the beach like Tracey or a woodland/lake setting? Or what about a hip and trendy urban location? Shoots from only £150. Contact me on karenmcgowranphotography@hotmail.co.uk for a chat about what I can do for you....and your dress!

Donna and Carl are married!

Donna and Carl were married at Hexham Registry office. This is a favourite of mine as the location is great for group shots and for the Bride and Groom portrait session. The Registry Office backs onto Hexham Abbey and the park and this gives great photos opportunities.

Donna and Carl invited close family to the reception at the Prudhoe Golf Club and then threw a big party at the Lancastrian Suite later that evening. Michaela, Brooklyn and Chloe were very pretty flowergirls and Josh did a fabulous job of looking after the rings.
It's pretty unusual for the photographer to be thanked during the speeches at weddings. This is probably due to the fact that they couple hasn't seen their photos yet and our 'thank yous' tend to come later. So imagine my surprise when I was presented with a lovely bouquet during Carl's speech! I was very shocked but absolutely delighted and I am looking at them while typing this post. Thank you Donna and Carl x

Alex, Lucy and Harry

I met this lovely trio in Leazes Park recently to photograph them for a special present for Grandma and Grandad. They were very well behaved and lovey children except little Harry was not really in the mood for having his photo taken - we all have moments like that! However with a few sneaky moves I was able to capture some lovely natual moments of all three children.
Portraits sessions in natural outdoor locations as becoming very popular over studio sessions. It's definately more interesting for the kids as they can play and relax giving me the perfect opportunity to capture my subjects at their best.

Gemma and Kevin at Tall Trees Hotel

29th August was Gemma and Kevin's wedding day and they chose Tall Trees in Yarm as their venue for the whole day. I quite like weddings all in once place as it mean less travelling for the photographer - and guests of course!
Tall Trees is a fairly large hotel with a light and spacious reception which is perfect for indoor group shots. This is ideal for weddings as sometimes the weather doesn't play ball and it's good to pick a venue with this feature. So the day went smoothly, Gemma looked beautiful and the guests had a great time. Oh and Kevin looked great too!!
Gemma and Kevin chose my Sophistication package which is perfect for large events like this. Their package included a large 14x10 inch digital storybook album, two parents albums, thank you cards, a framed enlargement of their favourite image and a DVD slideshow. The last image of the two of them supping Champers is the image Gemma and Kevin chose for their Thank you cards - perfect!

Jane and Dave...finally married!!

This marriage has been a long time coming! Jane and David met 20 years ago while both were travelling in Australia. Fast forward to 2009 and here they are with 20 of their close friends and family at very intimate ceremony at one of my favourite venues Close House Hotel. After congratulating the couple with one or two glasses of champagne and some delicious canapes we all headed for their lovely home and a relaxed reception in ther garden - and the weather was on it's best behaviour too! At weddings as small as this I really get a chance to mingle and chat to the guests and I love this part of being a wedding photographer. Oh and Paddy the dog needs a special welcome too as he looked so cute in his special collar!

Here are some of my favourites from the day.

Tracey and Richard's Album

I post many wedding images but I've never posted some album spreads! So I am going to show you how I design my albums and how yours could look if you choose something similar for your big day. The album spreads below are from Tracy and Richard's beautiful wedding at St Joseph's Church and Derwent Manor. They were a very friendly and loving couple and this could be seen in the many many friends and family who turned out to help them celebrate. The weather wasn't great so we did some smaller formals inside then we just had enough time for some amazing Bride and Groom portraits inbetween the showers. I left before the evening party started but I know they went on to have a great party!

This album is a 12 x 8 inches with 25 double page spreads. So when opened it's 2 feet across! The images are printed directly on to stiff pages giving it a very modern and contemporary look. It also has a acrylic cover over the front page image which looks like glass and makes the album fairly heavy but very luxurious.

I've shown the first 5 pages. To see the whole album please click HERE and enter the password 'walshalbum'.
