Carlton Towers Military Wedding with Robyn and Martin Karen McGowran Photography Newcastle Wedding Photographer

It seems like so long ago now, but back at the end of July 2013, Martin contacted us about photographing his military wedding to Robyn at Carlton Towers in February 2015. We do travel around the country a lot for weddings but hadn't come across this venue before. After a quick google for Carlton Towers, which is in Goole, North Humberside, we were blown away with the venue and knew it would make a superb backdrop for their wedding. They were both posted in the South of the country, Robyn was a Flying Officer in the RAF and Martin was an Army Captain so we expected lots of military tradition at this wedding.

Then in January 2014, we received an email from Robyn to say that she was being deployed to Afghanistan in that year and wouldn't be back until March 2015. Although that proposed deployment didn't go ahead, Robyn did go to the Middle East and supported the redeployment of kit. This meant the wedding date had to change to April 2015 - thankfully, we were still free!

With any wedding away from the North East, we always travel the day before to do a recce at any new venue. The drive up to the estate was breathtaking then suddenly through the trees, Carlton Towers just appears and all you can say is "Wow"! The wedding day started with Robyn getting ready in the tower...

We met Martin in the morning while he was having some breakfast with his family, before catching up with him and Nick, his best man, looking impressive in his uniform, about an hour before the ceremony to capture some portraits. We headed back up the tower for Robyn's final bits of prep ahead of their ceremony.

The weather was brilliant and stayed that way throughout the afternoon and evening. Robyn and Martin, together with their friends and family had a brilliant relaxed day in an amazing location.

Finally, a few words from Robyn...

"Thank you so much for the images!  They are absolutely incredible and we have loved spending the last half an hour or so looking through them and reliving the day.  Although I think it's going to take a lot longer for us to be able to decide on our favourite image!

You were both so amazing to work with and we're very lucky that such talented people were able to capture our day so perfectly! You've been a brilliant friend throughout the entire process and we hope that you'll be capturing many more precious moments for us as and when we start a family :)"
